Interview Rosa- Crvx

1 Your last album, Noctes Insomnes, left three years ago and half. Why a so long silence?
It is true that three years and half it is very long… but it should be understood that we do not work that the music, there are many of other fields of Rosa-Crvx which require a large work… We have an engineering department of 300m² in which there is always something on fire… the last parts which left there are the 8 bells of a chime which accompanies us from now on on scene… and the decorations by our last film also, right before…

This said, attention with the traps: A new album should leave only when one group has something of really significant A statement.
I do not support any more these groups which leave a disc per annum! They would make better save their energy while leaving twice less CDs and while making them a little more interesting. On their discography, one would say that they play to avoid the holes in front of the dates!

Ca, it is the definition of chattering: to speak to speak and nothing to say… It is necessary to evolve/move, be renewed, yes! but not to make new A any price. And like Nouveau never wanted to say Mieux, when one has nothing of to better say one TAIT! If it is not better, it is good for the Dustbin not for CD… Quality, not Quantity! (has good entendeurs…)

 

2 You said of Noctes Insomnes that its childbirth had been done in the pain, to the heart of a multitude of nights without sleep. What was it of the gestation of In Tenebris?
Ca was a little like the hour of an assessment, the moment or one gathers all the parts of a work to present it as a whole.
There was this film, born from the eclipse of 1999, which required extraordinary means, in any case means which we and which did not have should have been given. It is through work and of patience… Twenty-two people in front of the camera that wants to say as much behind… and then the costumes, the horses, the lights! In this natural decoration of the Caves of Caumont nothing was easy to manage.
Dimensioned music that it passed by salvos. Intense periods of composition and more or less long stops to continue film. It was necessary to have much continuation in the ideas. As a whole I would say that it was very intense and very opening out for the group which went on in parallel its way of maturity.

 

3 In does Tenebris seem to be even darker than Proficere and Noctes Insomnes (from where its title?) but also harder musicalement. Etes you of agreement with this analysis?
Yes, "in Darkness"… it is well the topic of this disc. A little further in research… I believed than it was the night which brought the solution, but "Noctes Insomnes" could not last more than one night without sleep. Darkness was elsewhere and in fact the eclipse opened the eyes to me. The night in the middle of the day! Darkness could appear any time! It was necessary to go to see. The film "Omnes Qvi Descendvnt" (literally "Those Which Go down") which accompanies this album tells this forwarding.

Almost all the musical topics are rates/rhythms of walk. It is a horde which moves: they raised the camp, they left for this Great Search a little like one leaves in war.
The album opens on "Svrsvm Corda" ("High Hearts") with this voice which howls the gathering of the troops. "Qvo Dolore Volvitvr!" they in chorus answer "Which abyss of pain!"… Indeed, the way will be long. More time passes more they are inserted towards the bottom of the abyss…

Very quickly the point of nonreturn is crossed… It is necessary that this way is the good! "Lvx In Tenebris Lvcet" "the light will shine in Darkness"

5 Which is Rosa the current line up of Crux?
Always the same core, namely Claude Feeny and Olivier Tarabo, around whom come to be grafted other musicians, performers, machinists, technicians etc… These is a little randomly meetings that the team evolves/moves. Last year we were a score to imply us in the project of the turning of the film "Omnes Qvi Descendvnt".
We met, at the time of the last concert with Cognac, Clément Marchal which made us splendid lights and which will accompany us on other scenes. With the Dance of the Earth, a new team more so much so that ever: Eléonore Joyet and Nicolas Lelandais.

 

6 Your music has until now indissociable summer of your scenic performances. Can you speak to us in the way in which your new pieces will be translated visually?
In this precise case it is by the projection of film. We have has this occasion completely re-examined and corrected the diffusion of the images on scene. Finished the bands vidéos which are trotted in control and which it is necessary to fix on the first notes with in 99% of the cases a shift of several seconds with the music played on scene. The solution was data-processing. The synchro is now perfect and that opened new horizons to us: one can make travel the public by changes of decorations, put fire at the scene or light with hundreds of candles by sequences of images. (fire being well on interdict in room)

 

7 Y will have new instruments on scene? New films?
On scene, Claude from now on sat in front of a large grand piano. This one is connected has a sampler what wants to say that the sounds can be selected with as much freedom than with an electronic keyboard, but at least one gets rid of an old problem of anachronism because the sounds of predilection of Claude are ancient, one could almost say baroques: Large Organ, large pianos, serious tablecloths of orchestra, etc… outgoing of one synthé Ca made "cheap a little"…
There is also in many of our compositions of the sounds of chimes. That belonged to our phantasms… a chime on scene! ! ! it was impossible! and finally, one found a formula magic…

The chime is installed in a scaffolding of 2,80m X 2m and currently composed of eight bells, of 27 A 66 cm diameter, it is played by a keyboard directly actuating the leaves according to the traditional principle of the chimes of churches.
The bells were molten by point by point respecting the traditional stages of manufacture. One nevertheless replaced bronze by another matter for not trimbaler nine tons in the truck.

And as all the bells which are respected, they were to be baptized, then the following names have summers engraved on the paunch: ASTAROTH, BEHEMOTH, BYLETH, CLISTHERET, FURFUR, HABORYM, SAMAEL, SUCCORENOTH, follow-up of the following advertisement "TONITRVI FILII SVNT APPELATI" which translates gives us "One call them wire of the thunder".
They are signed and dated on the brain: "Rosa+Crvx me fundebat, anno MMI"

 

8 One of your specificities resides in the use of the acoustic battery midday. Is it true that you still improved it for this album?
It was to some extent relookée… It resembles still a little less one conventional battery and more and more a formation of brass band. One put Toms at the dustbin to replace them by Drinking cups of orchestra and the drums of copper passed from two to four manpower. And especially, the total sound which results from it is much more imposing!

 

9 You said your last concert which it was the best than you ever made. Can you tell us some words of them?
It was a great first on all the levels: The chime initially of which it was the first concert, the grand piano, the new system of synchro diffusion of images, the new team with the Dance of the Earth, new films, the titles of the next album tested as a public, the drinking cups and the drums made also their first exit… And also all the team of the room of West Rock'n'roll of Cognac which was really with us! One put all together there so that it is beautiful spectacle and it was without bur. A beautiful team work that the public appreciated. Ca, it was organization!

 

10 do you always Manufacture objects, the such anatomical board, simultaneously with the group?
There were still new objects manufactured: they are the accessories of film: armours of head for the armour of the horses, drill plates, masks with speaking pipe, etc… but these will not be on sale with the catalogue…

 

11 Other projects? Round? Maximum out of vinyl only? It will be in the spirit of your first works on the level of the design?
Not exactly: to give pleasure and to give pleasure with in love with vinyl, in coproduction with the label rouennais UNE, we accompany this next album by a Maximum 45t Picture with 2 titles of CD "In Tenebris". A version "single" to some extent…
Dimensioned concerts, a round is organized *, it will have the characteristic to be able to be played in all kinds of rooms,
of largest with smallest.
Sleep and already, another turning is programmed to increase the vidéos scene, (a performance around fire) and also of the work of with dimensions of the instruments: to gradually supplement the chime of 8 towards 12, then 16 bells, to go...... still a little further "in darkness".
